As of January 1st, 2025, newly manufactured air conditioning and heat pump systems must use refrigerants with a GWP (Global Warming Protection) of 700 or less, meaning they can no longer use R-410a. All HVAC equipment in the United States must use either R-32 or R-454b refrigerant moving forward. While these changes are beneficial to our environment, they require new HVAC equipment manufacturing and create inventory and cost issues for replacement equipment.

At this time, R-410a-compatible equipment is no longer being manufactured, meaning replacement equipment stock is very limited.

If your system needs a partial replacement (condenser, evaporator coil, furnace, or air handler), finding compatible R-410a equipment is challenging and costly. In this case, we recommend upgrading your equipment to the new refrigerant, as it will be more cost-effective in the long run. R410a systems will become more costly to repair, with refrigerant being phased out and parts becoming obsolete.
